Welcome to Day One. It’s the beginning of what may seem a daunting task–to read the Bible everyday for a year. But we’d like to help us change our focus.
This is God’s Word – 66 books that He Himself wrote miraculously through 40 authors over the span of 1500 years.
If you’d like to learn more about this amazing accomplishment we recommend an article by Desiring God Ministries titled, How We Got The Bible. The author explains at length how amazing it is that we have this book at our disposal. It is the primary source of our growth in godliness. What a precious gift!
This journey we are starting today will not be easy. There will be days when we fall behind due to circumstances. God knows and understands. There is grace for the delays. I (Debi) have found many times because I was behind in my reading that I read a verse on the day when I really needed to hear it. God is leading you through this process–trust Him, even in the unexpected delays.
We invite you to comment on each blog post just to check in and let us know how your journey is progressing. Questions to consider:
- What things has God shown you that seems fresh and new?
- How has this reading been challenging?
- How has this reading been comforting?
- How can we pray for you?
It’s also not too late for anyone to join us. Feel free to encourage your family and/or friends. As you know any road trip is best when shared. Route 66 is an ancient road with so much to discover. We can’t wait to see what God reveals to us all.
Let the journey begin…
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God[a] may be complete, equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV
We also wanted to share with you those who have joined us on this year-long journey. Most are from Metro. And we just want to reiterate how excited we are to do this together. Glory to God!

I switched my plan from a year to 6 months. I wanted to give myself time to do some smaller specific plans the last half of the year. I am currently in Genesis 22 where Abraham is tested about his allegiance to God above all else. It so reminds me of worshiping as a Mom and saying “God take everything, it’s all yours …” but instead of ending with a period I add a little * and continue “…but just not this or just not that way, PLEASE.” How easily we sing the lyrics on a Sunday but in our hearts we know and God knows those areas with the *. It’s a continued intentionality to face them and surrender them every time they creep in. He is faithful. He gets it all. He deserves it all. And I can trust Him, even with my kids, my most beloved earthly possession.
